layers and texture

I've been thinking of dark walls and smokey interiors for a while now. I go to sleep thinking of paint swatches and fabric.   This photo has great combination of textures and strong wall colour.   I love how the lighter objects pop out against a dark wall.  Lots of texture in the various pieces of stone work, the fireplace and the rusted iron urn on the mantle.  Lovely sludgey colours and a gorgeous throw to wrap around and get cosy.

It has a really earthy feel, don't you think?

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Happy Weekend

After acupuncture and massage, I'm feeling much better.
Patience was never my thing and I find laying around exasperating to say the least!
Today for the first time I was able to drive!!!  Yay!
And I took myself off to explore some new antique and thrift stores and I've come back with loads of inspiration for DIY projects.

I know we are nowhere near Spring, but when I saw this picture it made me smile!

Happy weekend!

Thinking of Summer

Hi everyone, how is your week going?

Welcome new followers, many thanks for joining me.

I'm not one to complain, at least not publicly, but today and for the last two days since Sunday, I'm laying flat on my bed with what feels like a pinched nerve in my back running down to my ankle.  I can't drive, I can't sit comfortably but I can lay down flat so the pressure's off my lower back.

And with little else to do I've been leisurely browsing through some lovely blogs...because I can't really do anything else (that's my excuse anyway!)

Sometimes you see a room and it immediately makes you smile, it exudes calm, eye catching colour, light and airy, with sunlight filtering through the windows, just lovely rooms that make me think of sunshine and warm days...

Just art

Hi everyone - Friday!!!
Weekend!!!

So today I'm doing a different post - paintings and incredible pen and ink drawings by a great friend of mine

Jody Olen

She doesn't have her own website or a facebook page and she doesn't blog either, she just paints and  paints....as well as looking after her three children and a husband, and a house full of animals.

That's what she does.
Paint.
From the heart.

She's extremely cool too...and she has the most amazing home...perhaps someday I'll do a post on her home.
So I thought I would showcase some of her work here.  It's my indulgence...I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

These paintings are large, approximately 1.5m x 1m

This entire piece is pen and ink

and this one as -  well made to look like an antique official document

(all photos are subject to copyright)

Thanks for joining me today, hoped you enjoyed something a little different.

If anyone is interested in any of Jody's work, please drop me an email:
sharondj@hotmail.co.uk or leave a comment.

Have a great weekend!

Kitchens to make Pancakes in

Happy Shrove Tuesday everyone!

I've spent the evening making loads of pancakes!  We all love them different ways, cinnamon sugar and lemon, nutella, lemon and syrup and berry coulis!

Hope you enjoyed your pancakes today?

So with pots and pans behind me I'm looking at my kind of dreamy kitchens.
Kitchens where I want to pull the drawers open and see what's inside!
Kitchens with interesting shelving, or glorious wallpaper, or chalkboard splashbacks where I can doodle a recipe !

Hallway styling

Hi everyone, how are you all today?

It's weekend, so baking, a little walking, a little cycling maybe, and a little reading...

I've been looking at hallway styling which not everyone loves because of the clutter element, but when you enter a home and see a table, a lamp, perhaps a vase of flowers or a mirror it gives you an instant feeling of home and what lies beyond...

My take on hallway styling

Wallpaper by Farrow and Ball - Lotus BP 2019 £98 per roll,  Sunburst Mirror M&S £149, Mr Bright Chair in Aqua from John Lewis £999, table lamp £41,25 My Deco.com,  Artificial shrub in pot from Habitat £20, Ikea Besta Burs Desk £200, pink pouff from Graham and Green £139, Eggshell lacquer trinket box £39,50, Yellow Pansy vase Anthropologie £16, White and gold lacquer tray £20 - total £1721.75 - prices may vary.

Have a great weekend!

You decide

The debate is on...plain white or colour?

I have to admit, when I was looking for white spaces to add to this post, they do look beautiful and I really admire those who manage to put together a great white space and live in it without feeling the slightest desire to add any colour!

On the other hand, it takes a certain amount of courage to get colour just right...
It's not just a random pick and wham it all works, there is a certain amount of cohesion that makes certain colours work alongside another.

Personal taste right?

Forgive me right now for I do not wish to offend anyone, but pure white spaces seem to freak me out!  Think One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and you're right where I am when I'm looking at these ultra white spaces!  I just want to RUN!!!

All that aside....my family would just not ALLOW me to create an all white living space...I'm from Africa remember....think spices, saffron, sun flowers, red peppers, blue skies, colourful fabrics etc etc....

Okay, so enough about what I like...
what do you like?
And more importantly, what could you live with?

Weekend and flowers

Friday I went hunting for white hyacinths.  I must have visited at least four or five florists before I found one that sold white hyacinths with the individual bulbs.  White and blue flowers being my absolute favourite, although I am learning to love other colours as well!

The dining room is now filled with the
the sweet scent of flowering hyacinths!

A blue lacquer tray from Nom Living arranged with flowers, a book on Quiet Corners of Paris, bird candle and an empty lily tealight holder.  I've gone through at least 300 tealights during the Chrismas period and my stock is now finished!

If the weather holds tomorrow I am determined to take the cover off my bicycle and go for a cycle along the beachfront.

Have a good weekend!
